I joined a panel on Capitol Hill for Understanding ADHD: Policy, Science, and the National Conversation, a Congressional briefing hosted by Mindful Choices for ADHD in cooperation with the Bipartisan Mental Health Caucus.
The panel: Dr. Kathleen Nadeau, Dr. Aaron Dodini (AXON ADHD), and Dr. Shanta Whitaker (Mindful Choices), moderated by Jakara Eason of Mindful Choices for ADHD.
The audience: About 50 people, including Congressional staff and representatives from NAMI and CHADD.
My role: The lived experience. As a mom diagnosed later in life, raising kids with ADHD, I shared what the years-long road to diagnosis and treatment actually looks like for a family, and why that timeline needs to change.
The message of the day: better policy begins with better information.
