I joined the panel for Young Adults with ADHD: Lost in Transition, the opening session of the Mindful Choices for ADHD 2026 Virtual Summer Summit Series, Thriving in Transition: Reimagining ADHD Care for Young Adults.
The topic: What breaks down for young adults with ADHD as they move from high school into college or the workforce. Supports disappear just as expectations for independence and self-advocacy go up.
The panel: Clinicians, researchers, and people with lived experience, including Dr. David Goodman and Dr. George DuPaul.
My role: The lived experience. As a mom raising teenagers with ADHD, and diagnosed myself as an adult, I shared what this transition looks like from inside a family.
What we covered:
New vulnerabilities that show up in the transition to adulthood
How fragmented care disrupts treatment
Gaps in adult clinical guidance and research
Executive function skills that are still developing just as independence begins
